How Does Your Web Hosting company Rate with the Better Business Bureau? The Better Business Bureau (BBB) can be a great organization to obtain information on any company you are thinking of doing business with. Through the BBB, you can see how many and what kind of complaints (if any) have been filed against that company and also their overall rating which is based on factors such as:
- Business’ complaint history with BBB
- Type of business
- Background information on business in BBB files
- Failure to honor commitments to BBB
- Licensing and government actions known to BBB
- Advertising issues known to BBB
You can also see what actions a company has taken to correct and resolve any complaints against them. Web hosting companies are no different. Many on our rated list are BBB accredited. But just exactly how do they rate with the BBB? We decided to save you some time and give you the information right here. This is something you’re not going to see on those other affiliate web hosting review sites! They don’t want to say any bad things about their affiliates. We want to give you all the information you need to make the right choice when selecting a web hosting company. Let’s see how the top rated website hosting companies rate with the BBB as of January 2012:
Hostgator: A+
InMotion: A+
Bluehost: A+
Just Host: A+
Go Daddy: A+
Lunarpages: A+
IX Web Hosting: A+
Start Logic: A+
1 & 1 Hosting: B
The lowest rated of companies in our top 10 list. According to the BBB, they have been slow in resolving certain complaints. This is surprising to me as I’ve not heard of any negative things about 1&1.
Host Monster: A-
HostNine: B
Evidently, the factors weighing down their rating are the length of time in resolving certain complaints and the fact that they are a relatively new company.
Cool Handle: D-
Ouch. They haven’t had many complaints filed against them. But apparently their failure to respond to one caused their rating to be lowered. Not sure what the details were to that complaint.
Now, we can’t be sure of the validity to every complaint filed to the BBB. Their grades are not factored into our ratings. Nor do I recommend the BBB be your only criteria to choosing a web host. However, it’s always good to have as much information as possible when making a web hosting purchase. And I’m happy to say that the majority of web hosting companies in our top ten have an A+ rating!
